Ravens' Ray Rice arrested Friday after 'minor physical altercation'

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested early Saturday morning after what his attorneys told The Baltimore Sun was a "very minor physical altercation" with a woman in Atlantic City, N.J.

Rice's attorney, Andrew Alperstein, told the Sun that Rice was charged and released after allegations of the minor physical altercation with the woman, who was identified as his fiancée. Rice's fiancée, Janay Palmer, was also charged and released in the incident, according to the Sun.

Both Rice and Palmer were charged with simple assault-domestic violence and were released on a summons to appear in court, according to a copy of the Atlantic City Police Department's report that was obtained by the Sun.

In a statement, the Ravens confirmed that they were aware of the incident.

"We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancée," Ravens public relations director Chad Steele told the Sun. "We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."

Michael Diamondstein, an attorney who was hired to represent Rice, said that sifting through the evidence will likely turn up nothing more than a "misunderstanding."

The 27-year-old Rice had perhaps his least-productive season with the Ravens last year, rushing 214 times for just 660 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 58 passes for 321 yards.
