The Wizards made several efforts to trade for Magic point guard Jameer Nelson before last Thursday's trade deadline, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com.
By the time the deadline had passed, the Wizards instead had acquired Nuggets backup point guard Andre Miller as part of a three-team trade with the 76ers, in which Denver obtained forward Jan Vesley and the Sixers received Eric Maynor.
Nelson would have provided the Wizards with solid offensive capability (12.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists per game), playoff experience and one remaining non-guaranteed year at $8.6 million.
GOLLIVER: 10 second-round picks who made it big
The Magic appear ready to give rising rookie-of-the-year candidate Victor Oladipo more late fourth-quarter minutes. He posted 30 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds Friday in an overtime victory against the Knicks.
Has to be surreal for #Magic PG Jameer Nelson being in Wash. considering #Wizards made several attempts to trade for him before deadline.
