Report: Cavaliers close to retaining David Griffin as general manager

The Cavaliers are close to removing "acting" from David Griffin's title. Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Cleveland Plain Dealerreports the team has selected Griffin from among four or five candidates to be the team's general manager. Griffin was named the Cavs' acting general manager after owner Dan Gilbert fired Chris Grant on Feb. 6.

Whether or not the Cavs will retain coach Mike Brown remains unclear, according to the report.

The Cavs went 17-16 under Griffin, who joined the Cavs as a vice president of basketball operations in 2010. Prior to that, Griffin worked 17 years in the Suns' front office, rising to senior vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager.
