Dodgers' minor-leaguer Alex Guerrero injured after fight with Miguel Olivo

A scuffle in the dugout of the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate Albuquerque Isotopes has left Alex Guerrero in surgery after losing part of his ear in a fight with catcher Miguel Olivo, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Guerrero's agent Scott Boras said that part of his client's ear was "displaced by a bite" and that he was quickly taken to the hospital for reconstructive surgery. Guerrero could be sidelined up to five weeks with the injury.

The game between the Isotopes and the Salt Lake Bees was delayed in the eighth inning after the fight, reports Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune. The police were later called in to interview players who witnessed the fight and to gather evidence from the scene.

The two players had a brief altercation earlier in the game when Olivo appeared to reach out toward Guerrero during a pitching change.

The Dodgers released a statement acknowledging the incident: "The baseball operations department is aware of the altercation and is conducting an investigation into the matter. The organization does not condone this type of behavior and will have no further comment at this time."
