Dolphins Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey is expected to miss at least the next three months after undergoing hip surgery on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted. The surgery was to address a torn labrum Pouncey suffered during OTAs, according to Schefter.

Schefter also tweeted Monday that Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week and miss four to five weeks.

The news specifically regarding Pouncey is a tough break for Miami’s already-shaky offensive line. The team will likely go with second-year UFA Sam Brenner at pivot and Dallas Thomas/Shelley Smith at the guard spots. Notable free agents include Fernando Velasco, David Baas and Dan Koppen.

Pouncey, who turns 25 in July, started in all 46 games in which he’s appeared for the Dolphins, who extended his contract through 2015 earlier this year. The news also puts Pouncey’s Week One availability in doubt. The Dolphins open the regular season with a game at home against the Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 7.
