Seattle Sounders midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg has rejected the advances of Serie A minnow Livorno as his agent claims he is wanted by major Italian clubs.

It's no secret Livorno wants the former Arsenal star as he is seen as a replacement for Antonio Candreva, who recently joined Juventus.

However, Sky Sport Italia claims Ljungberg has made it clear he wants to play for a bigger side, thus rejecting Livorno's interest.

The player's agent Claes Elefalk claims a number of Italian clubs have manifested an interest, but he was unprepared to shed more light on the suitors.

"I heard about Livorno's interest in Ljungberg, but there are also many Italian clubs who have made surveys for the player," the agent told Calciomercato.it. "[David] Beckham's excellent return with Milan has led to clubs thinking the same will happen with Ljungberg. But we must remember he still has one year left on his deal with the Seattle Sounders."

The agent was keen to point out his client's prowess, but was unwilling to put a name to a club.

"I cannot name the clubs, but you can imagine the type of team that would be interested in a player like Ljungberg," added the agent. "He has played a whole season without injuries and he was in great form, becoming the most popular player in the MLS."
