Ghana FA president denies match fixing reports
The Ghana football association has already had to play down reports of a player revolt. Now it's done the same with reports of match fixing.
Over the weekend, reports surfaced in The Daily Telegraph that alleged the Ghana national team had arranged with a FIFA official to fix international matches (not in the World Cup). In response to those reports, Ghana FA president KwesiNyantakyi has released a statement of denial.
"The report of the newspaper or the media house is entirely not accurate," Nyantakyi said via the Ghana federation's official website.
"There is a representation of half-truths and half-lies. It's not true that we have agreed with match fixers or people who intend to organize matches of convenience between the Black Stars and any opponent in the future. The claim now been made is that, they got me to agree to offer them the right to organize matches and determine or the outcome of this matches. I have still not received the response of the [GFA] Legal Committee which response was suppose to be forwarded to the Executive Committee for consideration and possibly approval or decline.
"There is really no cause for alarm as far as I am concerned because nothing untoward has happened involving me or the Federation and all the noise been made is of no consequence."
The Ghana Football Association has already reported the matter to FIFA and the Ghana Police Service.
Ghana still has a chance to advance to the knockout stage if the USA and Germany do not tie and Ghana wins by a margin that allows it to overcome a goal differential deficit.
