SV Werder Bermen finished 12th in Bundesliga last season. Aaron Hunt and Nils Petersen led the way in scoring, with seven goals apiece. Hunt also led the team with six assists. 

Hunt, who joined Bremen in 2001 at age 14, left the team after signing a three year deal to join Vfl Wolfsburg. Bremen completed transfers to bring in 21-year-old Oliver Husing, 19-year-old Davie Selke and 19-year-old Melvyn Lorenzen. Felix Kroos, the brother of German star Toni Kroos, also agreed to a new three-year contract with the club.
