Atletico Madrid finished in first place in La Liga last season and lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The team's leading scorer was Diego Costa, who scored 27 goals in league play. David Villa was second with 13 goals.

Unfortunately for Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa left for Chelsea in the offseason. The team also lost David Villa, who will be joining the new New York City club in MLS. Atletico did add French winger Antoine Griezmann and Argentine fullback Cristian Ansaldi, as well as 19-year-old Argentine striker Angel Correa.
