Report: Alejandro Sabella quits as coach of Argentina national team
Alejandro Sabella, the head coach of the Argentina national team that reached the World Cup final, has stepped down from the position, Reuters reports.
Sabella's agent said two days before Argentina lost 1-0 in extra time to Germany in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil that Sabella was unlikely to remain as coach afterwards.
“You have to fill the energy tank which sometimes gets empty. I have to think if I’m in condition to give 100 percent,” Sabella said two weeks ago.
The 59-year-old took over as Argentina's coach in August 2011.
Argentina's next major tournament is the 2015 Copa America in Chile, which they begin preparing for with a friendly against Germany on Sept. 3, so the Argentine Football Association must find a new coach soon.

According to Reuters, local media reports say Jose Pekerman is among the favorites to succeed Sabella. Pekerman coached Argentina in the 2006 World Cup and most recently coached Colombia to the quarterfinals in Brazil.
