The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Argentine attacking midfielder Matias Perez Garcia, the club announced Thursday

Garcia has spent the majority of his professional career in Argentina and has also played in France, Uruguay and Chile.

Most recently, Garcia was with CA Tigre, in Argentina. In 77 appearances with the club he had 16 goals and ten assists.

Garcia was signed as a "Designated Player," an MLS rule that allows teams to have up to three players whose salaries do not count against the cap. 

U.S. men's national team forward Chris Wondolowski is also a Designated Player with the Earthquakes.

San Jose is currently in last place in the Western Conference.
