One month after suffering a broken vertebrae while playing for Brazil in the FIFA World Cup, Neymar has returned to training for FC Barcelona, the team announced Wednesday.

Neymar sustained the injury in Brazil's 2-1 quarterfinal win over Colombia when he was hit from behind by defender Juan Camilo Zuniga, ending his World Cup. The striker had to be carried off in a stretcher after the hit and said he was nearly paralyzed from it.

A full recovery had been expected, and Neymar said last week his back was almost 100 percent. Barcelona said it plans to give his back a full examination.

Playing without Neymar, Brazil went on to lose 7-1 to Germany in the World Cup semifinals.

Barcelon's La Liga season begins Aug. 24 against Elche. It's unclear if Neymar will be able to play.
