Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso announced his retirement from international soccer on Wednesday.
Alonso, 32, will continue to play for Real Madrid. He played 11 years for Spain's national team, which included victories in the 2008 and 2012 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup.
"I announce my retirement from international football. It's been an enormous honour for 11 great years. Sincere thanks to everyone involved," Alonso said on Twitter.
He ends his international career with 16 goals in 114 games for Spain.
Fellow Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez also retired from the national team earlier this month.
