FIFA VP wants 'real candidates' after Sepp Blatter leaves post

FIFA vice president Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein says he wants "real candidates" to run soccer’s governing body after current president Sepp Blatter leaves his position, according to the Associated Press.

Prince Ali said the candidate should run on a campaign “focused on policy not personality.” Blatter, 78, has been FIFA’s chief since 1998 and confirmed he plans on running for a fifth four-year term.

"When you talk about elections, I would really would like — maybe it's too late now — but in the future that it's not based on personality but based on a mandate, based on evolving the organization," Prince Ali said.

Prince Ali’s place on the FIFA ruling committee is set to go away after a rule change stating the Asian Football Confederation president will become Asia’s FIFA vice president.

“According to the reasoning behind that was that it's a matter of protocol," Prince Ali said. "I don't give a damn about protocol. I'm here for football."
