Louis van Gaal: Danny Welbeck not good enough for Manchester United
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said that former Man U forward Danny Welbeck wasn't good enough to keep his spot on the club, according to The Guardian.
Welbeck was sold to Arsenal at the transfer deadline earlier this month for a reported £16 million. The first-year coach said Welbeck didn't prove his scoring capabilities were sufficient.

“I have given all the players a chance to convince me of their qualities,” Van Gaal said. “Yes, Danny Welbeck was here from when he was nine. He has played, after [his 2010-11 loan at] Sunderland, three seasons at Manchester United but he doesn’t have the record of [Robin] Van Persie or [Wayne] Rooney and that is the standard. That is why we let him go."
United was able to acquire Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco at the transfer deadline, which helped make Welbeck expendable, but van Gaal said the club informed Welbeck he'd be made available to other teams before United knew it would be bringing in Falcao.
Welbeck, 23, made 92 appearances with United over parts of six seasons, scoring 20 goals. He is yet to appear for Arsenal.
Welbeck is also a member of the England national team, and scored two goals in the team's win over Switzerland on Monday in a Euro 2016 qualifier.
