Manchester United will have to pay at least $220 million to bring Portugal's national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club from Real Madrid, according to various British media.

United manager Louis van Gaal said last week that he would be interested in a deal for the superstar forward.

Ronaldo makes $26 million a year playing for Madrid and according to a report in The Guardian would have to take a massive pay cut to return to Manchester United.

Ronaldo shot down rumors about him leaving Real Madrid.

“They are all speculations about my future. My future is Madrid,” he said, according to the Guardian. “I’m happy this season is going well and my future I will not speak about, it does not make sense.”

Ronaldo, who played for United from 2003–2009, recorded his 25th hat trick with Real Madrid in a 5-1 rout of Elche in the Spanish league on Wednesday.
