USA winger Julian Green (ribs) out against Ecuador, Honduras

United States midfielder Julian Green will miss the team's upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Honduras because of a rib injury, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced Thursday.
Green was sent back to Germany to rehab with Hamburg, his club team. He injured his ribs last month and returned to practice but hasn't played since Sept. 20.
The 19-year-old Green, who decided to play for the U.S. instead of Germany prior to this year's World Cup, became the youngest player to score a goal in the World Cup since Lionel Messi in 2006 when he scored against Belgium in the first round of the knockout stage. He was loaned to Hamburg by Bayern Munich in September.

Friday's match against Ecuador will be U.S. star Landon Donovan's final game with the national team. Donovan's 57 international goals and 58 assists are the most in U.S. history. Klinsmann named Donovan captain for the game, and he is expected to play 30 minutes.
The U.S. hosts Ecuador on Friday at 7 p.m. in Hartford, Conn., and plays Honduras in Boca Raton, Fla., on Tuesday.
