Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has indicated that he intends to upgrade his team's defense in the January transfer window. The Telegraph reports that Wenger's budget will be around $32 million.

Wenger reportedly wanted to add a defender in the summer transfer window following the departures of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City and Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona.

Arsenal signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle, but he is out for three months while rehabbing an ankle injury.

The English club currently sits in eighth place in the Premier League Standings with 10 points and has yielded nine goals over seven matches.

Arsenal's next match is Saturday at home against Hull City.
