Cost of West Ham's Olympic Stadium conversion increases by $57 million
The cost of West Ham United's conversion of London's Olympic Stadium has increased by £35.9 million ($57.6 million), Owen Gibson of The Guardian reports.
West Ham had previously agreed to pay £154 million ($247 million) to contractor Balfour Beatty. The total spending on the project will continue to increase as other contracts are finalized. The stadium cost £429 million ($688 million) to build for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Gibson reports that Balfour Beatty had problems during the installation process of the stadium's new roof.
The roof on the stadium, which West Ham will move into as primary tenants at the beginning of the 2016-17 season, is the largest of its kind in the world and requires construction techniques normally used to build oil rigs in the North Sea.

After the conversion is completed, the stadium will have 54,000 seats. West Ham will begin a 99-year lease in 2016.
West Ham is 4-1-3 on the season and in fourth place in the Premier League. The Hammers play Manchester City on Saturday.
