USMNT forward Terrence Boyd tore ACL during club match in Germany

On Sunday, United States men's national team forward Terrence Boyd tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a match in Germany, his club, Red Bull Leipzig, reports.

Boyd also partially tore the ACL in his same knee in July. The injury kept him out for ten weeks, but did not require surgery. He returned to the team in October, and scored three goals in seven games.

The injury occurred in the 37th minute of a match against Ingolstadt. 

Boyd has played in 13 matches for the United States national team since 2012. According to MLSSoccer.com, the 23-year-old was one of the final players cut from the US team’s roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Gold Cup begins July 7.
