FLORENCE, Italy (AP) — After returning from the latest in a series of serious knee injuries, United States-born Italy international Giuseppe Rossi has agreed to reduce his salary at Fiorentina.

Fiorentina general director Andrea Rogg says "there is already a shared intent to revise his contract. ... It confirms that besides being a great footballer he's also a phenomenal person."

The reduction will reportedly cut Rossi's yearly pay from 2.4 million euros ($2.7 million) to 1.7 million euros ($1.9 million), although he could make up lost money with performance bonuses.

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa says Rossi will make his first start of the season against Genoa on Saturday.

Against Torino two weeks ago, Rossi came on for his first official appearance in 15 months. He scored for Fiorentina against PSG at Red Bull Arena in his home state of New Jersey during the International Champions Cup in July.
