Paris Saint-Germain to wear ‘Je suis Paris’ on jerseys
Paris Saint-Germain will wear jerseys with the words “Je Suis Paris” on them to honor the victims of Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, the team announced Wednesday.
Last Friday, 129 people were killed in several coordinated terrorist attacks throughout Paris. France’s match with Germany at the Stade de France was targeted, as explosions took place outside the stadium.
The message on the jerseys is similar to the “Je Suis Charlie” tributes after the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attacks that also took place in the French capital this year.
PSG is not slated to return home until its next game against Troyes on Nov. 28. It will play Lorient on the road on Saturday with a Champions League match against Malmo in between on Nov. 25.
An emotional pregame ceremony took place before Tuesday’s friendly between England and France at Wembley Stadium in London. Fans of both teams joined in singing the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise,” before the start of the match.
During the match, Wembley’s arch featured France’s blue, white and red colors as a sign of solidarity.
