Sergio Aguero hit a major milestone Tuesday, scoring the 100th Premier League goal of his career.

Aguero, who appeared to be well offside on the goal-scoring play, headed home Aleksandar Kolarov's free kick from the left, giving Manchester City a 1-0 lead at Newcastle. City, which is still alive in the Champions League semifinals and fighting for a top-four finish, dealt Newcastle a hit in the Magpies' quest to avoid relegation with the early start, only to have Vernun Anita's first goal since March 2014 bring the clubs back to level standing. After their 1-1 draw, Newcastle is two points behind 17th-place Norwich City with four games to go.

Aguero is the second-fastest player to reach the milestone, doing so in 147 games after arriving from Atletico Madrid. Alan Shearer, who starred for Newcastle, did so in 124.

The goal brought Aguero within two of Harry Kane for the Premier League lead. Kane extended his tally to 24 with two goals in Monday's 4-0 win over Stoke City. Like Aguero, Leicester City's Jamie Vardy also has 22 goals.
