France, Switzerland draw 0-0, both go through at Euro 2016
There we no late heroics for France this time, as the Euro 2016 hosts drew Switzerland 0-0 in the Group A finale for both sides. The draw was good enough to send France through to the knockout stage as the group winner, while the Swiss go through as the second-place team. Albania, by virtue of its 1-0 win over Romania, finished in third and maintains hope of being one of the top four third-place finishers, while Romania is eliminated.
France his the crossbar in each half, with Paul Pogba's 25-yard piledriver striking it in the 18th minute and Dimitri Payet volleying off the bar in the 76th. Payet's came after a tremendous individual effort by Mousa Sissoko, who evaded challenges and ran down the right flank before crossing to the group-stage hero for Les Bleus.
Pogba and Antoine Griezmann were restored in Didier Deschamps's lineup after being benched for the second match of the group, while Payet was used in a substitute's role. He had an opportunity to win the match from a free kick in the 88th minute, but he blasted his chance off the wall.
Switzerland's highlights included a number of equipment malfunctions, with multiple Swiss players having shirts torn and Valon Behrami tackling the ball so hard that it popped.
