Publish date:

France and Ireland will meet on Sunday in the Euro 2016 quarterfinal.

The match, which will be played in Saint-Denis, marks the first time the two sides have played since France took home a 3–2 victory in an international friendly in 2012.

France reached the knockout stage after winning Group A with wins over Romania and Albania before drawing with Switzerland. France beat Ireland, 2–1, in the round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Iceland, the smallest country competing at Euro 2016, advanced past the group stage by finishing second in Group F behind Hungary, which has since been eliminated from the tournament after a 4–0 loss to Belgium. Iceland upset England, 2–1, to move into the quarterfinal stage.
