Chelsea signs Belgium forward Michy Batshuayi from Marseille

The prolific 22-year-old forward joins Chelsea from Marseille, signing a five-year deal.

Chelsea signed Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi soon after the Red Devils were eliminated from Euro 2016 with a quarterfinal loss to Wales.

Batshuayi, 22, joins Chelsea from Marseille on a five-year deal. The move is said to have cost Chelsea roughly $44 million. He scored 23 goals and added 10 assists across all competitions for Marseille last season, and his 17 league goals trailed only Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Lacazette and Edinson Cavani.

"(Fellow Belgium players) Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in (as coach), it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player," Batshuayi said in a club statement.

Batshuayi scored once at Euro 2016, doing so with his first touch after coming on as a substitute in Belgium's win over Hungary in the round of 16.
