Aston Villa Poised to Swoop for Hull City Winger By Activating Release Clause
Aston Villa have reportedly moved to sign Hull City winger Ahmed Elmohamady, and are believed to have triggered the player's release clause - thought to be in the region of £1m.
The 29-year-old joined the Tigers on a permanent deal in 2013, having impressed during a loan spell when the club were playing in the Championship.
According to reports from the Sky Sports News HQ official Twitter page, Aston Villa have triggered the player's release clause and are pushing to agree terms with the Egyptian. Elmohamady will be the third high-profile player to leave the East Yorkshire club this summer, with Harry Maguire joining Leicester City and Tom Huddlestone leaving for Derby County.
Given their financial struggles, Aston Villa haven't approach the transfer window with the all-guns-blazing approach that a number of their league rivals have thus far.
However, the arrival of Chelsea and England legend John Terry as captain has been somewhat of a coup for the Midlands side, as Steve Bruce's men aim earn promotion to the Premier League next season.
Elmohamady is an experienced international with Egypt, and has represented his country on 74 occasions. The midfielder has also won two African Nations trophies, and was named the Hull City Player of the Season in 2013. The player is well known by Bruce, who took the initial gamble to bring him from Egyptian side ENPPI to the Premier League with Sunderland in 2010.
Hull City fans will be eager to see their side bounce back to the Premier League next season, after suffering relegation in the previous campaign.
The mass exodus of their players may well come as a concern, given that they are yet to invest money in any replacements. Manager Leonid Slutsky will certainly have his work cut out in the competitive Championship next season.
