Atletico Madrid Full-Back Javier Manquillo Set to Leave Boyhood Club Amidst Newcastle Links
Javier Manquillo is set to leave Atletico Madrid for Newcastle United, after failing to make any kind of impact at his boyhood club.
The 23-year-old has been an Atleti player since 2011 after coming up through the club's youth ranks, but he has hardly featured for them and has been farmed out on loan for the past three seasons.
He arrived in England with Liverpool in his first loan spell, then turned out for French outfit Marseille, before coming back to England last season with Sunderland to experience relegation from the Premier League.
Mundo Deportivo report that the full-back is not in the plans of Diego Simeone, and that he will not continue at the club he would have loved to have made a proper impact for.
That news has opened the door for Newcastle United, who have been linked with a move for the Spaniard recently.
The Magpies have supposedly already entered talks with the player, and some outlets have reported that a deal is close.
It would be interesting to see how the Toon Army faithful would accept Manquillo if a move does materialise - fans seem quite split in the idea so far on social media, with some finding it difficult to overlook his Sunderland links.
