Swansea City have had a reported £21m bid for Las Palmas' attacker Jonathan Viera rejected.

According to Caniarias 7, reported via Wales Online, the Liberty Stadium hierarchy had wanted Viera to reunite with his former Las Palmas teammate Roque Mesa, who recently joined the Swans earlier this month.

However, the Canarian club have reportedly blocked Swansea's advances for the 27-year-old, stating that they will not sell until his release clause in his contract - which runs until 2021 - is met to the value of £26m.

Also, Las Palmas president Miguel Angel RamIrez considers Viera integral to his side's La Liga efforts and will loathe to lose another of his star men following Mesa's switch to South Wales. If Swansea meet the reported release clause though, then a deal is very much still on the cards.

Much like Swansea new boy Mesa, Viera was an integral part of Las Palmas' team last season. He is a versatile attacker, and can play on the wing or in a more central role.

He was easily one of the stand-out performers in the Canary Islanders' outfit last campaign and contributed seven goals and as many assists in 31 La Liga appearances.

The former Valencia player recently told Marca of his excitement over the upcoming season, albeit with his future still not decided:

"The truth is that I am very well," he said. I have worked in summer to not start from scratch.

"If you do not make it to the pre-season, you've wasted your time. I have rested for two weeks in the summer and have already set out to make the best of these months. I really want to start because I think this can be our year."
