Napoli are close to announcing a new deal for star left-back, Faouzi Ghoulam, who is expected to renew his contract with the club until 2021.

His agent will fly out to the club's training ground next week to continue discussions, with a conclusion said to be imminent, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Algerian international - who was signed from Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne in 2014 - has established himself as a key man in Naples, with Maurizio Sarri seemingly desperate to keep him.

Ghoulam had been the subject of interest from Premier League clubs, with Liverpool and Chelsea both keen on the 26-year-old.

The Algerian featured in 29 Serie A games in 2016/17, recording an impressive six assists and firmly established himself as the club's number one choice over Ivan Strinic.

Ghoulam was also a consistent presence in the Champions League, starting all of Napoli's eight games and recording three more assists.

He's one of the finest left-backs in world football and with the likes of Marek Hamsik, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne in front of him, why would he not want to stay? Kalidou Koulibaly next to him has probably helped his decision too.
