Newcastle United have informed £12.5m new signing Jacob Murphy that they will be keeping tabs on his twin brother Josh Murphy.

Both players came through the academy at Norwich City, and have both developed well during their time in the Sky Bet Championship with both goals and appearances to show for their efforts. Jacob Murphy managed to score eight goals in 37 league appearances last season, while Josh Murphy scored only three in 26.

According to the Mirror Sport, Jacob Murphy has signed for the newly promoted side in a deal worth 32,500-a-week. The Premier League side allegedly signed Jacob Murphy after monitoring both him and his brother for twelve months during their time at Norwich.

It has been reported that Toon scouts will continue to monitor Josh Murphy's performances next season and will evaluate his development before deciding whether to pursue a deal for him in 2018.

Fans will remember that this wouldn't be the only time Newcastle had two brothers playing for them. During Newcastle's last stint in the top flight both Shola Ameobi, and his younger brother Sammy Ameobi played for the club.

The north east club have already signed Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Josef Varney, Stefan O'Connor and Javier Manquillo this summer, the majority of whom are defenders, and the club are now looking to bolster their firepower upfront.

Rafa Benitez's new signings represent an influx of youth into his side that now look to reinvent themselves in the Premier League. Newcastle fans will hope that the arrival of Jacob Murphy will provide flair and goal-scoring ability to the Toon attack.
