Chelsea and England legend Frank Lampard has spoken out publicly to encourage Ross Barkley to consider a move to Stamford Bridge this summer in order to fulfil his potential.

Four seasons ago Barkley was one of Europe's hottest prospects but despite showing flashes of brilliance, the England international is yet to live up to the lofty expectations people set for him.

Lampard told football.london that Barkley would be capable of fulfilling his potential with Chelsea after failing to capitalise on the early promise he showed in the 2013/14 season with Everton.

"Looking at it from the outside, he’s 23 now and he’s always had pockets of games where he’s done well and we talk about him," Lampard said. "His England career has done a bit of that as well because he’s never done that throughout a season, so maybe a change would be good for him."

Lampard went on to reflect upon his own experiences as a player and the decisions he made to help him excel throughout his professional career.

He added: "At some stage sometimes, I did it as a young lad at West Ham, you have to try and go out of your comfort zone and try something else."

He continued: “If he comes to a team like Chelsea or Tottenham, the players around him will help him improve because he'll see what it takes to go to the next level. Ross has the potential and he needs to go to the next level, he needs to look at the likes of Hazard and Willian and try and do the things they do.

"That’s not just have the potential, but to create and score goals regularly."

With Barkley supposedly pushing for the exit door at Goodison Park and Antonio Conte in need of strengthening his squad by way of new signings it might be likely fans will be seeing the young midfielder swapping Merseyside for London this summer.
