South America’s World Cup Qualifying Cauldron Heats Up as Time Winds Down
Thursday August 31st, 2017

Uruguay plays host to Argentina in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.

There are four matches left in qualification and Uruguay sits in third place, while Argentina is in fifth but trails by just one point. With a top-four place needed to ensure a berth and avoid the fifth-place playoff, both sides will benefit greatly from three points.

Uruguay’s defense has been struggling of late and will need to shore up against Argentina’s plethora of forwards, led by Lionel Messi and Paulo Dybala. Luis Suarez is training for Uruguay but his status remains in doubt.
