David Wagner Hails 'Extraordinary' Display in Huddersfield Romp Over Watford

David Wagner has hailed the 'extraordinary' efforts of his Huddersfield side after they ended their winless Premier League away record against Watford.

The Terriers stormed to a 4-1 victory over the Hornets to land their first away victory in England's top flight since the opening day of the season.

Speaking to the Examiner after the contest, Wagner revealed that he thought a display like that was near after last week's match against Brighton before he went on to laud his players for the triumph.

He beamed: "We deserved this victory. We performed one week ago against Brighton on a comparable level.

"We were brave, we pressed them high, we were on the front foot and we were in their faces.

They performed on their highest level.

"Our rotation policy worked today - we looked fresh and fast. After such a difficult away run this is something extraordinary.

"Today it is hard to highlight individuals. Today is an overall great team performance."

Huddersfield appeared to be the beneficiaries of a few questionable refereeing decisions in Hertfordshire as their opening goal was allowed to stand despite evidence of two players being offside.

The Yorkshire-based club also benefitted from an early red card for Troy Deeney for a challenge on Collin Quaner, and managed to net a late penalty after Laurent Depoitre was fouled in the box.

Wagner, though, refused to discuss Michael Oliver's decision making and merely said that his side's performance should be the main point of discussion.

He continued: "This game was too great to discuss referee’s decisions. I haven’t seen any video footage so far of the goals or sendings off."

The only blot on a superb day for Wagner and his men - a red card for Jonathan Hogg aside - was a knee injury sustained by goalscorer Elias Kachunga just 10 minutes after he opened the scoring. The German added that his forward had suffered a knee issue in the game, but didn't elaborate on how severe it was.

Wagner said: "It looks like a serious knee injury."
