David De Gea is prepared to deny any attempts from Manchester United to sell the goalkeeper within the next two transfer windows amid contract uncertainties, with the Spaniard willing to sign fresh terms as the club’s highest paid player.

With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2020, there are growing concerns that the 28-year-old star could walk away from Old Trafford for free at the end of next season. With that in mind, it has been suggested that United may seek to cash in on De Gea.

However, according to The Times, the Spain number one is prepared to resist any moves from United to part companies within the next two transfer windows. Instead, De Gea is said to be willing to renew his contract, on the condition of becoming the club’s top earner.

De Gea is apparently yet to receive an offer to renew which he deems to reflect his position as United’s star man, not to mention his acclaim as the Professional Footballer’s Association’s Premier League’s best goalkeeper in five of the last six years.

It is said that De Gea is seeking improved financial terms which give him parity with the club’s highest earners, a measure which is largely unusual in dealing with a goalkeeper.

However, the Spanish superstar has been named as United’s player of the year in four of the last five seasons, meaning that De Gea has won the club’s award more times than any other player in United’s history.

The former Atletico Madrid shot stopper has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in Europe since arriving to the Premier League as a prodigious talent in 2011.

However, it is his status as arguably United’s most important player which appears to give him the greatest leverage in his ongoing contract saga with Jose Mourinho’s side.
