Liverpool & Manchester United Tracking Uruguay Under-20 Starlet Nicolas Acevedo

Liverpool and Manchester United are among several clubs who have shown an interest in 19 year old Uruguayan starlet Nicolas Acevedo, according to reports. 

The two Premier League giants will send scouts to watch the versatile youngster at the South American Under-20 Championships in Chile this month. 

Acevedo currently plays in his native Uruguay for Liverpool Montevideo, and is capable of playing in both defence and midfield. 

As reported by the Daily Mirror, the young talent has alerted a host of European clubs, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Udinese and even Championship side Norwich among those monitoring his progress.

Acevedo has already played twice for Uruguay in the tournament, playing in a deep-lying midfield position on both occasions. His side face Argentina in their next match on Thursday night, and they will be looking to build on their 3-1 victory over Ecuador last time out. Uruguay sit third in group A on three points, after the Ecuador win and a defeat to Peru.

Both United and Liverpool have a good track record of playing young players in the first team. Both Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have become integral parts of Jurgen Klopp's side, whilst Marcus Rashford recently made his 150th appearance for the Red Devils at the tender age of 21. 

Both clubs also have a history with Uruguayan players. Diego Forlan called Old Trafford home before exploding on the European scene with Villarreal, and more recently Guillermo Varela was given first team opportunities under David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal. 

Luis Suarez and Sebestian Coates both spent time on Merseyside, although their degrees of success vary drastically.
