Former Sevilla and Arsenal star Jose Antonio Reyes was killed in a car accident in his native Seville on Saturday morning at just 35 years old.

Reyes was the first Spanish player to ever win the Premier League when he joined Arsenal. He went on to be part of the club's Invincibles season before leaving in 2006 and played for both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid before returning to Sevilla in 2012.

Sevilla FC the confirmed news of his passing on Twitter. Several players, clubs and leagues paid tribute to the late Spanish star.

Thierry Henry, who played with Reyes between 2004-2007, called him a "wonderful player, superb team-mate and exceptional human being".

"I wish his family and friends continued strength and courage to get through this difficult time. #takenfartoosoon", he said on Twitter.

His other former Spain and Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas called Reyes his "first great friend in the world of professional football", and added: "My roommate, who always wanted to sleep with the air conditioning even at -10 degrees."

"A humble guy who always had a smile on his face, great footballer and great person. I could not wake up today in a worse way."

A minute's silence will be observed at the Champions League final for Reyes on Saturday.
