MELBOURNE, Australia -- The post-match on-court interview at the Australian Open can make a star out of relatively unknown players who score a big win on Rod Laver Arena.

Think back just a few years ago and you'll recall Li Na's time at the microphone. On her way to her first Grand Slam final, she charmed the fans and left everyone in stitches with stories of her snoring husband and creative spending. It's a great opportunity for fresh-faced players to warm up to the crowd and, if played right, they almost always hit it out of the park.

Not Eugenie Bouchard, though. The 19-year-old Canadian beat Ana Ivanovic 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 on Tuesday to advance to her first major semifinal, but her post-match interview didn't quite sit well with the spectators. She was asked (rather inappropriately, I might add), If you could go on a date with any person in the world, who would it be? She chose beleaguered Canadian pop star Justin Bieber. And the crowd actually booed her response.

You can watch the funny yet awkward moment here.

Curious about Bouchard's love for Bieber? She defended her status as a "Belieber" before.

"He gets so much hate, but I like some of his songs," she told SI.com in an interview last summer. "And I respect him because he came from nothing and he became this mega-superstar and he does have talent."

Fair enough.

Here's how Twitter reacted to Bouchard's answer:
