American women took center stage on day 3 in Paris. Reigning Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin had to fight the elements, as well as with Liudmila Samsonova to reach the second round. 

Former finalist Sloane Stephens made quick work of her opener, dropping just four games against Vitalia Diatchenko, the 2017 U.S. Open champion moving on in style.
