NFL by the Numbers
127
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick rushed for 127 yards against the Buccaneers last Sunday, his third career rushing performance of 127 or more yards. Since 1972, no other quarterback has rushed for more than 125 yards in a game. Vick's sixth career 100-yard rushing game extended his own NFL record for quarterbacks. Billy Kilmer had four.
Bill Cowher's and the Steelers' 9-0 loss to the Jaguars marked the first time a Super Bowl champion has been shut out the next season since 1981, when the Raiders were blanked three weeks in a row by the Lions, Broncos and Chiefs by a combined score of 60-0.
138
Michael Turner of the Chargers ran for 138 yards on 13 carries against the Titans, the most yards by a running back on 13 or fewer carries in six years, since Tiki Barber was 13-for-144 against the Cards on Sept. 3, 2000.
400
Peyton Manning's 400-yard passing game against Houston was the seventh of his career, tying him with Warren Moon and Joe Montana for second-most in NFL history, behind Dan Marino's 13. Over the last nine weeks, the Mannings have three times as many performances of 360 or more passing yards (three) than the rest of the NFL combined (one). During that span, Peyton has had two, Eli Manning one and Ben Roethlisberger one.
3
Rasheen Mathis and the Jaguars led the Steelers 3-0 after three quarters Monday night. The Jags were also involved the last time only three points were scored after three quarters, a game they lost 10-3 to the Colts on Sept. 18, 2005, after leading 3-0 after three periods.
300
Giants quarterback Eli Manning has more career 300-yard games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (two) than in Giants Stadium (none). The Giants' last 10 300-yard passing games have been on the road.
1
Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell has more touchdown passes this year in one pass attempt (one) than Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms has on 82 pass attempts (zero). In the Vikings' win over the Panthers, Longwell had more touchdowns than both quarterbacks -- Brad Johnson and Jake Delhomme -- combined.
235
With tight end Antonio Gates catching four passes for 55 yards, the Chargers had 235 yards passing and 241 yards rushing against the Titans, the first time in 37 years they've had at least 235 yards of both in a game.
2
Ben Roethlisberger threw as many interceptions in his first game this season (two) as he did in his first six games combined last year.
111
L.J. Smith had 111 receiving yards for the Eagles on Sunday, the most by a tight end against the Giants since Mickey Shuler of the Jets had 127 on Dec. 2, 1984, in a 20-10 Giants victory.
87
Charlie Batch threw for more yards on one pass to Heath Miller (left) in the Steelers' opening-day win over the Dolphins (87 yards) than Roethlisberger threw in either half Monday against the Jaguars (60 in the first half, 81 in the second).
125
Falcons running back Warrick Dunn (134 rushing yards) and Michael Vick (127) are the first running back-quarterback duo in NFL history to both surpass 125 yards rushing in the same game. The Falcons have rushed for more than twice as many yards (558) as any other team in the NFC. Also, Dunn, who rushed for 132 on opening day against the Panthers, is the first player to rush for 132 yards in each of the first two games of the season in eight years, since Garrison Hearst of the 49ers had 187 against the Jets and 138 against the Redskins in 1998.
