NFL by the Numbers
71 ... Jay Cutler connected on a 71-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall in the Broncos' loss to Seattle. That was the longest TD pass from one NFL rookie to another since Dec. 15, 1996, when the Rams Tony Banks completed a 77- and 72-yarder to Eddie Kennison.
-5 ... David Carr and the Texans beat the Raiders Sunday despite minus-five net passing yards, the fewest net passing yards by a team in a victory in 35 years. The last team to win with fewer than minus-five net passing yards was the Los Angeles Rams in a 20-14 victory over the 49ers on Oct. 10, 1971.
4 ... Devin Hester's 45-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Bears' win over the Vikings made him the first rookie in 39 years with four scoring returns in the kicking game in the same season. The last rookie to do so was Travis Williams of the Packers, who returned four kickoffs for touchdowns in 1967.
60 ... Rob Bironas's 60-yard field goal for the Titans against the Colts was the fourth-longest in NFL history but only the second-longest this year, behind Matt Bryant's 62-yarder for the Buccaneers against the Eagles. The 122 combined yards are the most ever by two field goals in one NFL season. The previous high was 120 yards in 1998 -- a 63-yarder by Jason Elam of the Broncos and a 57-yarder by Jeff Wilkins of the Rams.
90 ... Over the past six years, Ron Dayne has had three games with 90 or more rushing yards -- all for different teams. Dayne ran for 111 for the Giants against the Saints in 2001, 98 for the Broncos against the Cowboys last year and 95 for the Texans against the Raiders last week.
34 ... Bears quarterback Rex Grossman's 34 passing yards against the Vikings are the fewest on 19 or more pass attempts in five years, since Anthony Wright of the Cowboys had 33 yards on 23 attempts against the Eagles on Sept. 30, 2001. Oddly enough, another Cowboys quarterback -- Quincy Carter -- had 34 yards on 19 attempts two weeks earlier against Tampa Bay.
60 ... Running back Shaun Alexander had an 18-yard run against the Broncos, the 60th consecutive game that he's had a double-digit run. That ties the NFL record set by Barry Sanders, who had at least a 10-yard gain in the last 60 games of his career.
3 and 131 ... Reggie Bush ran for three touchdowns and had 131 receiving yards, making him the first player in NFL history with three rushing TDs and 130 or more receiving yards in the same game.
100 ... Jerious Norwood is the first back in 10 years with two 100-yard rushing games in one year on fewer than 10 carries. Norwood was 9-for-107 against the Redskins last Sunday and 6-for-106 game against the Cards on Oct. 1. The last with two such games in one season was the Raiders Napoleon Kaufman, who was 7-for-116 against the Chargers on Sept. 22, 1996, and 8-for-109 against the Chiefs on Dec. 9.
89.1 ... With his ninth pass attempt against the Packers, Chad Pennington reached 1,500 career pass attempts and became eligible for the all-time NFL leaders in passer rating. He finished the game at 89.1 and moved into the No. 7 spot. Brett Favre, who began the year at No. 12, continued his free fall and is now 15th at 85.5.
73 ... Matt Bryant's 27-yard field goal as time expired against the Steelers was the first field goal on the final play of a game to break up a shutout in 73 years. The last time a kicker broke up a shutout with a field goal on the final play came on Nov. 5, 1933, when Christian Kelsch of the Pittsburgh Pirates made a 15-yarder for a 3-3 tie with the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets.
312 ... Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia, who is 36, threw for 312 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions against the Panthers on Monday, making him the oldest quarterback in four years with a 300-yard game with three TDs and no interceptions. The last to do it was Rich Gannon of the Raiders on Nov. 11, 2002.
14 ... Until this week, no rookie quarterback in NFL history had rallied his team to two victories after trailing by 14 or more points. Titans rookie Vince Young has done it twice in eight days. Young rallied the Titans from 24-0 against the Giants two weekends ago and from 14-0 against the Colts this past weekend.
2 ... Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka's interception of Tony Romo was his second this year. He picked off Bears quarterback Rex Grossman on Nov. 12. That made Kiwanuka the first rookie lineman to intercept two passes in a season since the Bengals Justin Smith in 2001.
1.3 ... Rex Grossman's 1.3 passer rating was the lowest by a winning quarterback since Norm Snead had a 0.0 rating on Nov. 14, 1976, in the Giants' 12-9 win over the Redskins. Snead was 3-for-14 for 26 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in a game that was more notable because the teams tied an NFL record that still stands with 11 combined field goal attempts.
