NFL by the Numbers

7 ... Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jaguars ran for two touchdowns against the Patriots, giving him at least one rushing touchdown in seven straight games and tying the NFL record for consecutive games by a rookie with at least one rushing touchdown. Curtis Dickey also ran for a TD in seven straight games as a rookie with the Baltimore Colts in 1980.

3.4 ... Despite a 3.4 yards-per-carry average, Edgerrin James of the Cards has 1,093 rushing yards and is on pace for 1,165 with one game left. Nobody in NFL history has ever rushed for more than 1,165 yards with an average of 3.4 or worse. In 2002, Eddie George ran for exactly 1,165 yards with a 3.4 average.

4 ... When the Eagles beat the Cowboys to clinch a playoff berth, Jeff Garcia became the first quarterback in NFL history to lead a team to the playoffs while starting at least three games for his fourth team in four years. The only other quarterback in NFL history to start three or more games for four different teams in four years was David Krieg from 1993 through 1996, but his fourth team, the Bears, went 7-9 in 1996. Garcia started 13games for the 49ers in 2003, 10 for the Browns in 2004, five for the Lions last year and five for the Eagles this year.

1,400 -- 90 ... Steven Jackson needs 14 rushing yards and two catches against the Vikings to become the second player in NFL history with 1,400 rushing yards, 600 receiving yards and 90 catches in a season. LaDainian Tomlinson in 2003 had 1,645 rushing yards, 725 receiving yards and 100 catches.

6 ... Derrick Brooks' 21-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Buccaneers' win over the Browns was the sixth of his career, breaking the NFL record for career INT returns for touchdowns by a linebacker. He had been tied with Charley Brock (1937-47 with Packers), Mike Lucci (Browns 1962-63, Lions 1965-73) and Rod Martin (Raiders 1977-88). Only 16 players in NFL history have more career INT returns for touchdowns, and all were defensive backs.

100 ... Redskins running back Ladell Betts has five straight games with 100 or more rushing yards. In his first 4 1/2 NFL seasons, he never had a streak of five straight games with 12 or more rushing yards.

150 ... Houston's Ron Dayne ran for 153 yards against the Colts, becoming the first running back in 12 years to record his first career 150-yard rushing game as late as his seventh NFL season. The last player to run for 150 yards for the first time seven years into his NFL career was another Houston player but with a different team. Lorenzo White of the Oilers was a rookie in 1988 but didn't have his first 150-yard game until his seventh season, 1994, when he had 156 rushing yards against the Giants at the Astrodome.

18 ... The Saints' 18-play touchdown drive against the Giants matched the longest TD drive in the NFL this year. The only other 18-play drive was by the Houston Texans -- also against the Giants, also at Giants Stadium and also going into the west end zone. Both drives were capped with two-yard touchdowns.

0 ... The Giants had no offensive plays across the 50-yard-line, the first time in six years a team did not run a play in the opposing team's side of the field. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was also involved in one of the other two instances of this, when he was head coach of the Jaguars. In 2000, the Browns had no snaps in Jacksonville territory. Also in 2000, the Bears didn't have any snaps across midfield in a loss to the 49ers.

28 ... In their loss to the Saints, the Giants allowed both Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister to rush for at least 100 rushing yards, the first time two running backs have rushed for 100 yards or more against the Giants in the same game in 28 years. The last time it happened was Dec. 17, 1978, when Wilbert Montgomery (130) and Mike Hogan (100) both did it for the Eagles.

16 ... Dolphins receiver Chris Chambers has 16 or fewer receiving yards in each of his last three games. That matches his total number of games with 16 or fewer yards in 88 previous career games. Chambers never had more than one game in any of his five previous seasons with 16 or fewer yards.
