VAIL, Colo. (AP) Olympic giant slalom champion Ted Ligety will be sidelined for an unknown amount of time after undergoing surgery to fix his left wrist Saturday.

U.S. Ski Team medical director Kyle Wilkens said in a statement that Ligety suffered a ''left wrist carpal dislocation'' while training in Vail, Colorado.

While there is no timetable for his return, he hasn't been ruled out of a super-G competition next week in Lake Louise, Alberta. He will be fitted for a splint to wear as he races.

The 30-year-old Ligety is the second big name on the U.S. squad to undergo surgery this week. Bode Miller had a procedure to fix his ailing back on Monday and is expected to be sidelined until at least January.

Ligety is a two-time Olympic champion.
