Makarainen wins women's biathlon World Cup sprint in Russia

KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia (AP) Kaisa Makarainen of Finland won the last women's sprint race of the season Friday to close in on overall biathlon World Cup leader Darya Domracheva, who finished third.

Makarainen missed one target to finish the 7.5-kilometer race in 19 minutes, 49.1 seconds, beating Laura Dahlmeier of Germany by 14.2 seconds. Domracheva was 15.5 seconds back after missing two shots.

With a pursuit and mass-start race remaining this weekend at the last World Cup meet of the season, Domracheva is now just nine points ahead of Makarainen in the overall standings.

Domracheva leads on 1,005 points, with Makarainen on 996.
