Ex-Eastern Michigan athlete sentenced in sexual assault case

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) A former member of Eastern Michigan's track and field team has been sentenced to eight months in jail in a sexual assault case.

The Ann Arbor News reports (http://bit.ly/1H2UqVW ) Eli Burdette also was ordered Wednesday to be on probation for five years after earlier pleading guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and aggravated domestic violence.

Two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct were dismissed.

Authorities say Burdette sexually assaulted a woman and prevented her from leaving her apartment in Ypsilanti in November. Burdette told the court it was a ''terrible night'' and he wants to serve his time and ''be a productive member of society.''

Burdette was a sophomore from Mansfield, Ohio, who competed in throws. He's no longer enrolled at Eastern.
