Kentucky guard Charles Matthews will transfer to Michigan, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reports. He will sit out the 2016–17 season and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Matthews, a 6'4", 190-pound shooting guard, played an average of 10.3 minutes in 36 games last season for the Wildcats, tallying 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds.
He announced he would be leaving Kentucky in May.
"I gained great experience during my freshman year at Kentucky," he said in a statement. "This was a difficult decision for me, but at the end of the day, I felt like it was in my best interest to explore other options."
He was a four-star recruit entering college, ranking No. 80 in the country according to Scout.com.
Michigan went to the NCAA tournament last season and was eliminated in the first round against Notre Dame.
