Both players have been suspended indefinitely from the football team, Texas coach Charlie Strong announced Thursday.
Sanders and Meander were taken into custody at Travis County Jail on Thursday and will be released on a personal recognizance bond, with a court date coming in several weeks.
According to the original report, Sanders and Meander allegedly had a sexual encounter with an acquaintance inside Meander's room on June 21. During the encounter, Sanders allegedly tried to use his phone to record the proceedings.
A sexual assault was reported to university police, and police came to the dorm that night and interviewed the players and other potential witnesses. The Austin American-Statesman previously reported that two Texas players had been investigated for the alleged incident.
In a statement, Strong said that "treating women with respect is one of [Texas'] core values," and he's "extremely disappointed" in Sanders and Meander.
Sanders, a junior receiver, started seven games last season, recording 37 catches and 361 receiving yards. He was suspended for last year's season opener after incurring a DWI charge the previous April. Meander, also a receiver, redshirted in 2013 as a freshman.
