Jameis Winston's Florida State hearing date postponed to Dec. 1
Wednesday November 12th, 2014

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston's code of conduct hearing regarding allegations of sexual assault has been postponed until Dec. 1.

The news was first reported by USA TODAY's Rachel Axon. SI's Pete Thamel later confirmed the report.

Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reported last week that Winston's adviser, David Cornwell, asked for more time to prepare for the case.

The hearing will be to determine whether Winston violated the university's code of conduct. Winston is accused of sexually assaulting a female student in December 2012.

In November 2013, the state's attorney announced that it was opening an investigation into the accusation. The investigation was completed a month later, and no charges were filed. Authorities have been criticized for being slow to act in investigating the woman's claim. In October, a FOX Sports report alleged that university administrators and Tallahassee police took steps to "hide and then hinder" an investigation.

The Department of Education is currently investigating the university for possible Title IX violations. Winston’s accuser filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, which decided the university should be investigated for possible Title IX violations over the way it responds to sexual violence complaints.

According to Axon, if Winston's hearing concludes on or after Dec. 5, a decision would not be due until Jan. 13, because of the school's winter break. The final game of the College Football Playoff will be played on Jan. 13.
