West Virginia AD Oliver Luck leaves school for position with NCAA
West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck stepped down from his position to take a position with the NCAA, the organization announced Wednesday.
Luck will be the executive vice president of regulatory affairs, a new position designed to put different offices "under one umbrella," the NCAA said. As part of his new job, Luck will oversee the day-to-day operations in all NCAA regulatory functions.
"I am very pleased to have Oliver joining our team in the national office,” NCAA president Mark Emmert said. “He brings to us wide ranging, hands-on experience from across athletic, academic, and business worlds."
Luck, 54, had been West Virginia’s AD since 2010. Previously, he was NFL Europe’s vice president of business development and the president and general manager of Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo.
During Luck’s tenure at the school, West Virginia made the transition from the Big East Conference to the Big 12. Luck was a member of the College Football Playoff selection committee as the conference's representative.
Luck, the father of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, was an NFL quarterback for four seasons with the Houston Oilers in the 1980s.
