Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky has decided to step down, the conference announced on Thursday.
Banowsky has held the position for nearly 13 years. He will now become the executive director of the College Football Playoff Foundation, but will stay on with C-USA until it has decided on his successor.
“My time with Conference USA has been an experience of a lifetime,” Banowsky said. “It has been an honor to serve these member institutions and this great conference, which is very well positioned for the future. The landscape has settled and these universities are all on the rise. They work very well together and the conference has tremendous leadership on each campus and within the conference office.”
Banowsky replaced former SEC commissioner Mike Slive as Conference USA's commissioner back in 2002. During his tenure, the conference has added several new members, including Old Dominion, North Texas, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech.
Conference USA expects to hold a special meeting in September to talk about Banowsky's successor.
